My academic publication “Camera Technology and 3D Aesthetics” (카메라 테크놀로지와 3D 미학) is now available digitally through Kyobo Book Centre (교보문고), Korea’s leading bookstore, as part of its academic eBook collection.

The article examines an important question in stereoscopic filmmaking: How does the choice of camera technology influence the aesthetics of a 3D image?

Stereoscopic 3D production is often approached primarily as a technical problem—choosing cameras, lenses, rigs, interaxial distances and convergence settings. However, these technical decisions directly affect spatial perception and therefore become creative and aesthetic decisions in cinematography and directing.

The publication discusses the relationship between stereoscopic 3D aesthetics, directing, optics and camera choice, and considers how different technical approaches can be selected for different artistic intentions. Its purpose is not to propose one universal 3D camera system, but to provide a better understanding of the possibilities and limitations of different technologies when designing a stereoscopic production.

The article was published by the Dong-Eui University Film & Transmedia Institute in Dispositif, Vol. 6, pp. 115–131. (교보eBook)
