In October 2024, Blue Girl, a digital full-parallax hologram by Alaric Hamacher, was selected for exhibition at the 2024 Next-Generation Immersive Content Technology Workshop (차세대 실감 콘텐츠 기술 워크숍) held at the National Gwacheon Science Museum in South Korea.
The event brought together researchers, universities, and industry leaders working on the future of immersive media, artificial intelligence, XR, display technology, and holography. Organised by the Hologram Forum, the National Gwacheon Science Museum, and the Korean Society of Culture and Contents Technology, the workshop combined technical presentations with a public exhibition showcasing the latest advances in holographic imaging.
Blue Girl in the “World of Holograms” Exhibition

As part of the event, Blue Girl was selected for the special exhibition “The World of Holograms”, where approximately 25 analogue, digital, and AI-generated holograms were presented to the public.
The exhibition highlighted the diversity of modern holography, ranging from traditional analogue recording techniques to computational holography and artificial intelligence-assisted content creation. Blue Girl represented the growing role of computer graphics and digital production workflows in the creation of high-quality holographic artwork.
Bridging Digital Content Creation and Holography
Unlike traditional holograms that originate directly from photographic recording, Blue Girl was created using a fully digital production pipeline.
The artwork combines:
- Photogrammetry
- Computer-generated 3D models
- Blender-based scene creation
- Computational hologram rendering
- Full-parallax holographic printing
This workflow demonstrates how modern visual effects and digital content creation can be integrated into contemporary holography while preserving the visual richness and depth that make holograms unique.

Displayed Alongside Emerging Holographic Technologies
The exhibition took place during a workshop dedicated to the future of immersive content technologies. The accompanying technical programme included presentations on:
- XR technologies for smart mobility
- Generative AI for immersive content creation
- Virtual simulation technologies
- Display industry developments
- AI-generated CHIMERA holograms
By presenting Blue Girl within this context, the exhibition demonstrated how artistic holography and scientific research continue to converge as computational imaging becomes an increasingly important part of immersive media production.
Continuing International Recognition
The exhibition at the National Gwacheon Science Museum marked another milestone in the international exhibition history of Blue Girl. The hologram has since been presented internationally, including the Light Magic – Hologram Art exhibition in Vietnam, and remains part of the permanent exhibition of the Hologram Center at Kwangwoon University.
Together, these exhibitions demonstrate the growing international interest in computational holography and digital workflows for full-parallax hologram production, while highlighting the research activities carried out at Kwangwoon University.
