Cinematographer and stereographer Alaric Hamacher has received the Special Jury Award for Stereoscopy at the 14th Festival Courant 3D in Angoulême, France, for his work on the experimental film Double Vision.

The distinction, officially titled Mention Stéréoscopique du Jury, was presented on October 10, 2026. The international jury recognized Hamacher’s contribution as stereographer to the film, which was originally produced as an artistic installation for the Nam June Paik Art Center in Korea.
Festival Courant 3D

Festival Courant 3D is an international film festival held in Angoulême, France, dedicated to stereoscopic cinema, immersive media, and innovative audiovisual storytelling.
The festival’s international 3D competition brings together filmmakers and artists exploring the creative possibilities of three-dimensional moving images. Its 14th edition featured a selection of international productions demonstrating different artistic and technical approaches to stereoscopic filmmaking.
Double Vision – An Experimental Stereoscopic Production
Directed by Korean media artist KWON Hyewon (권혜원), with cinematography by Pink Shak, Double Vision explores the relationship between visual perception, technology, and artistic expression.
The film was shot in stereoscopic 3D using two Sony VENICE digital cinema cameras, with Hamacher serving as stereographer. The specialized 3D crew was provided by D.KE, a stereoscopic production company based in Digital Media City, Seoul.
Originally conceived for an exhibition environment, the project uses stereoscopic imagery as part of its artistic expression rather than simply as a visual effect. Its selection and recognition at Courant 3D demonstrate the possibilities of presenting experimental media art within an international stereoscopic film competition.
Sony XYN – A Special Prize for Stereoscopy

The award includes a Sony Spatial Reality Display ELF-SR2, provided by Sony XYN.
The 27-inch display presents stereoscopic imagery without requiring 3D glasses, offering new possibilities for exhibiting spatial cinema in galleries, museums, and other cultural environments.
The prize is particularly relevant to Hamacher’s recent work. At the ARCHÉOLOGIE DU PRÉSENT exhibition at KOTE in Seoul in October 2026, he presented stereoscopic cinema using the same Sony ELF-SR2 display technology.
These projects connect professional stereoscopic film production with emerging glasses-free 3D presentation technologies.
Continuing Work in Spatial Cinema
Alongside his professional filmmaking activities, Hamacher is a professor in the Department of Immersive Convergent Content at Kwangwoon University in Seoul. His work focuses on stereoscopic cinematography, digital holography, and immersive media.
Hamacher thanked director KWON Hyewon, cinematographer Pink Shak, the performers, the D.KE production team, Festival Courant 3D, its international jury, and Sony XYN for their contributions and support.
